Precision Bearing Installation & Maintenance for Longer Equipment Life

The cold hard fact is 99% of mechanics, supervisors, and engineers, have never been shown the proper ways to mount bearings, and worse yet, have learned a lot of poor habits handed down from others along the way.

This intense 4-day hands-on class covers all the correct tools and methods for mounting, dismounting, handling, & lubrication of bearings using typically sized shafts, housings, bearings for demonstration, and practice. We cover all of the most common types of bearings found in paper mills, steel mills, chemical plants, steam and power plants, and other industry. We will demonstrate the proper way to perform each task without sacrificing speed and show the results when incorrect methods are used, most having been adopted or had passed down.

We build on the bearing fit and tolerances subject covered in the Precision Maintenance Skills 1 course, expanding on with more exercises in vital measuring, housings, shaft fitting, and where to find the all-important numbers.

As part of the demonstration, students will see how minor changes they induce in housing misalignment, roundness, lubrication, and tolerance stack have a noticeable effect on how the bearing runs, vibrates, and ultimately, its expected life. The hands-on portion will include instruction and practice on proper bearing mounting methods using the necessary Timken, Torrington, or SKF tools. We will include real-world examples of heating bearings correctly and incorrectly, as well as improper installation practices for coupling and then disassemble the new bearing connected to it to see the effect.
